I'm eager to play the bridge for Galway Girl on a D Tin Whistle and am trying to determine the notes by ear. The way I write them down is 1 All six fingers, 2 No fingers etc and I think, from reading your website that the notes are as follows - All six covered = D, Five Covered = E Four Covered = F#, Three covered = G, Two covered = A, One covered = C and None covered = B. Is this correct and in my attempt to discover notes for the bridge or interlude between verses, I seem to have reached a note lower than D but I feel certain that the bridge can be played on a D. I know the song can be. There seems to be around 40 notes each in two parts to the bridge. Appreciate any help and this is a great site by the way.

I have been playing the Irish Tin Whistle for roughly six months now, and I was wondering if anyone might know how to play "Tura Lura Lural" (The irish lullaby) on the whistle.

Asked by:Gabriall

I recently bought a low G Susato, while my finger reach is ok and I use my full last part of my ring finger to cover the last hole...I still cant stop the squealing consistently - when I go from high G to A and back ( all 6 holes covered - to top 5 holes covered and back. I like the loudness of this instrument - but there's got to be some way to stop the squealing. I don't have this problem with the Bamboo whistle I use - but then its not as loud and not very well tuned either.

Asked by:

I'm trying to play Foggy Dew and I'm having trouble reading the tabs. I'm playing of these tabs: http://unitedireland.tripod.com/id793.html When I get to the 11th note, the tab is marked with a pound sign (#). I thought that this indicated I should blow harder to produce a higher note, one octave up. However, that doesn''t match the actual tune. "And down the glen one Eastern morn..." The 11th note should correspond to "morn" in the lyrics; but "morn" is sung as a *lower* note than the preceding words, not higher. Am I reading these tabs wrong? What does the # mark symbolize and how should I play it? Thanks much. Brian

I love the whistle contributions in several of the pieces off of Ken Burns' "Lewis & Clark" soundtrack, especially "When Summer Ends" and "Beech Spring." Do you have any idea if any of that whistle music is available as sheet music? I'm trying to imitate it by ear, but it is very slow going (and frustrating).
